Gerald L. Bruns was educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Brothers of the Holy Cross, and the Jesuits (at Marquette Univ., class of 1960). He received his doctorate from the Univ. of Virginia in 1965. He taught at Ohio State Univ. (1965-70), the Univ. of Iowa (1970-85), and Notre Dame (1985-2008). He was twice awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He is the author of ten books, the most recent of which is Interruptions: The Fragmentary Aesthetic in Modern Literature (Univ. of Alabama Press, 2018).
