Literacy Support for Elementary Schools

Tutor-ND is a University of Notre Dame literacy tutoring initiative that partners with local elementary schools to provide high-impact literacy support for students. We are currently recruiting tutors for the Fall 2026 semester and would love to welcome members of the Retired Faculty Association to our team.

Tutoring takes place throughout the school year with flexible scheduling options both during school and after school. Tutoring takes place in schools, so there is no need to come to campus. All tutors will be trained in the science of reading and receive ongoing support from an on-site team leader. Training is completed online through Canvas and takes approximately 4 hours to finish. We ask tutors to commit at least 1.5 hours per week, working one-on-one with students for approximately 25-30 minutes per session in local schools.

Note: Before you start tutoring, you must complete a background check because you will be working with children.

Volunteer Usher Program

Join the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center as a part of their Volunteer Usher program! The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center (DPAC) is the home for performing arts at the University of Notre Dame and part of the Arts Gateway on campus. With five world-class performing arts venues under one roof, the Center hosts over 500 events, which include live concerts by world-renowned artists, plays and musicals by the Film, Television and Theatre Department, academic lectures, a wide range of new and classic films, and special events of all kinds. Our Volunteer Ushers assist with scanning tickets, passing out programs, and helping patrons find their seats. Interviews for the Volunteer Usher program at DPAC are held in January and July each year.

You can follow this link to fill out an application, and you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator.
