During his 35-year career at the Notre Dame Police Department, Sikorski rose through the ranks from a patrol officer to eventually hold the rank of Major, serving in a senior administrative staff role. During those years he served the department in many ways. He was the first officer to serve as a full-time trainer. As a state-certified law enforcement trainer, he was responsible for presenting classes, providing firearms instruction, and ensuring that all officers in the department met the training requirements of the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board. He eventually specialized in Protective Operations after graduating from the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection School. He was responsible for all dignitary protection operations at Notre Dame PD from 1992 until 2015.

Throughout this time he worked with numerous federal and foreign security counterparts protecting Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, and foreign Heads of State. Sikorski has gone on to teach dignitary protection at professional organization conferences and at the University of Notre Dame and Purdue University. As the manager of the Technical Services Unit, Sikorski led that group in the design and installation of over 500 alarm accounts and the installation of well over 1000 CCTV cameras. During that time, he led the unit in transitioning from analog to IP-based systems. Trained in the principles of Crime Prevention by Environmental Design, He worked closely with the university’s Architects Office in plan review of all major construction projects for over 20 years.

Sikorski also managed the transition of all public safety radio communications at Notre Dame from an analog system to the State of Indiana's digital radio system.
