A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, I completed my undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University and my law degree at Notre Dame. After a short period of corporate practice with a large law firm in San Francisco, I returned to Notre Dame to join the faculty of the Law School -- first, as a visiting professor, and then as a regular faculty member.

Over my almost 40 years on the faculty, I was also privileged to serve as the University's vice president for student affairs from 1990-1999 and as dean of the Law School from 1999-2009.

My areas of expertise within the law are state corporate law, federal securities law, and the law of higher education.

I continue to reside full-time in South Bend since retirement, and I volunteer on projects in the Law School and at the Alliance for Catholic Education, among other interests.
