Albert Wimmer

Albert K. Wimmer, 84, of Syracuse, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on August 20, 1939, in Altötting, Germany, and is survived by his wife, Susan Wimmer of Syracuse, his sons Marc and Steve, along with his stepdaughter Tina Kardomateas and 4 grandchildren.

Dr. Wimmer was a Professor at the University of Notre Dame for over 50 years in the Department of German and Russian Languages and Literatures, where he also served for several years as Chair. He was a constant learner throughout his entire life, and was beloved by his many students.

A passionate sailor, he spent many windy days on the waters of Lake Wawasee.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Cedar Grove Cemetery Chapel on the Notre Dame campus.
