Welle John Professor of Italian, Romance Languages and Literature

In 2023, I continued to publish and present on the poetry of Andrea Zanzotto, as well as contributing to book reviews: one on Dante and cinema, and another on Mussolini and theatre.

I opened up a new research project on Giacomo Costantino Beltrami, an Italian explorer whose search for the sources of the Mississippi River in 1823 brought him into contact with the Dakota and Ojibwe in their lands that would become the state of Minnesota.
