Multi-Factor Authentication

If you are currently using multi-factor authentication to access Notre Dame resources and that verification is either a text or phone call, you need to switch to Okta Verify or Google Authenticator on your phone, tablet, or computer as soon as possible. While we were not given a specific date, we were told “in June or July,” the current multi-factor authentication will be deactivated.

Step one: download Okta Verify or Google Authenticator from the app store on your phone and enroll.

Okta Verify is the easiest option.

Once set up, you can use push notifications. When you log in, a message will be sent to your device asking you to confirm the attempt. If it was you, simply tap “Yes, it’s me.” No code entry is typically required. If you encounter an unusual login, you may need to enter the 2-digit code that appears on your phone to complete the process.

Because Okta defaults to the most recently used authentication method, removing your phone number after setting up a new method will help ensure your account uses the correct option going forward.

Step two:

Log in to okta.nd.edu

  1. Click your name in the upper-right corner and select Settings
  2. Remove any phone numbers listed, as they will stop working in the coming months
